MEET THE LAYTONS

We picked up Elder and Hermana Layton at the airport on Tuesday morning. They live just a few miles from us in Utah, but we had never met. They are remarkable people and we have felt the confirmation of the spirit that they have been handpicked to serve at this time as humanitarian missionaries in Chile. We know they will move the work forward in important ways.

Welcome lunch for Elder & Hermana Layton and Elder & Hermana Nelson. They arrived on the same plane. Elder Nelson is a physician, and Hermana is a nurse. They will serve as medical consultants to the 13 missions in Chile and Paraguay.

We spent the week orienting Layton’s to Santiago and introducing them to some of our important partners. It is bittersweet as we say goodbye to these dear friends we have come to know and love. They each offered a prayer for us as we depart and to bless the Laytons in their new calling.

Salvation Army

Foundation Esperanza Nuestra – Wheelchair project partners

We drove Laytons to Camp Cumorah Casablanca where they will be facilitating the service projects at PFJ. Elder Mora favored us with an impromptu concert.

We reviewed upcoming projects with them and projects that will need follow-up visits during the upcoming months and got them set up in the computer system. We took them on three prospective project visits in the Santiago area.

Foundation Deportistas por Un Sueno whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children suffering from terminal diseases.

Comunidad Vida Digna. This organization operates a community center that offers family support for children on the autism spectrum, occupational and physical therapy for those with neurocognitive impairment, and afternoon workshops for the elderly. These workshops are currently being held outside. With the approaching winter, they need an indoor space and are requesting a container.

The municipality of Casablanca needs medical equipment for its five rural health posts.

CUMORAH CASABLANCA FOND FAREWELL FIESTA

Our dear friends, fellow missionaries, and English Connect students, Elder y Hermana Salgado and Elder y Hermana Mora invited us to Camp Cumorah Casablanca on Saturday. We enjoyed food, fun, and fellowship. Liliana & Erwin Correa (also English Connect students) surprised us there. We had never met them in person. We are grateful for these forever friends.

OPEN HOUSE

On Saturday afternoon the Santiago East Mission hosted an open house for the community at our chapel. Some of our friends from ADRA & Salvation Army accepted the invitation to attend.

44TH ANNIVERSARY

We shared our 44th-anniversary dinner with fellow senior missionaries after a long day of project visits.

Elder & Hermana Bruland hosted Sunday dinner.

Witnessing this display of clouds with silver linings is a perfect way to end our mission because every hard situation holds the possibility of something good. May you find those silver linings in your challenges this week.

Abrazos, Élder y Hermana Lamb, (aka Ed & Debbie, Mom & Dad, Pop Pop & Tu Tu)
