“A” A MUCH-NEEDED WEEK IN THE OFFICE
We worked from 9:00am to 5:00pm in the office Monday through Thursday managing the correspondence and documentation required for humanitarian projects.
“B” BASEBALL GAME
On Saturday we attended a Little League baseball game. Little League International has brought together more than 600 immigrant children ages 4 to 16 whose families have fled from Venezuela, Columbia, and the Dominican Republic to the Santiago area. They need more sports equipment. We have received their solicitude and this project is in the beginning stages of development.

“C” CONCERT
Cerrillos is a bedroom community of Santiago comprised of many sub-areas. Of these sub-areas, many are labeled as “Red Zones” where some of the most vulnerable people of Santiago live. These zones are desperate to bring new life and civility to their areas. The mayor and community leaders have focused on changing the culture of these zones by introducing cultural activities. One of these is a Children’s and Youth Orchestra. Forty-seven youths currently participate in the Cerrillos Children’s and Youth Orchestra. This nonprofit organization does not charge youth for their group music lessons or participation in the orchestra. It is funded by the municipality of Cerrillos and the Ministry of Culture. Some members of the orchestra come from these “Red Zones.”
The orchestra performs free concerts in these “Red Zone” neighborhoods with the goal of integrating the citizens of Cerrillos by exposing them to classical music.
The donation of additional musical instruments will allow more youth to participate in this music training opportunity, provide them a broader perception of the world, facilitate discipline through their daily practice, and foster camaraderie with other orchestra members. Music has the power to change lives, bring the spirit, and soften hearts.
Our church donated violas, cellos, clarinets, timpani drums, and other percussion instruments to this orchestra. On Saturday evening we attended a concert held at one of our churches. Church members collected elderly residents from the community to attend and enjoy this beautiful concert.

“D” DELIVERIES & DINNERS

One of our past church leaders Thomas S Monson once said, “Just as we learned the ABCs in school, I offer my own ABCs to help us all gain the abundant life: Have a positive ATTITUDE, BELIEVE in yourself, in those around you and in eternal principles, and face challenges with COURAGE.”
