On Monday morning we flew 1,300 km north to Antofagasta where we met up with Lindquists who had been traveling. We went to Elder & Hermana Woodhouse’s apartment for a view of the progress on the construction of the Antofagasta temple and enjoyed dinner together.

We had plenty of time to catch up with each other as we prepared school kit supplies until 2:00am.

Tuesday morning the wonderful youth in the Antofagasta mission assembled 2,000 school kits.

Representatives from the Salvation Army Schools were there to receive them. These kits will be donated to children in the cities of Arica and Calama.

Lunch with the Lindquists before we got on the plane. We think we look pretty good for only having 4 hours of sleep the night before!

We arrived back in Santiago at 10:00pm Tuesday night and left at 5:00am Wednesday morning to fly 930 km south to Osorno. Elder and Hermana Salgado accompanied us. We got off the plane and drove two hours toward the Argentine border to the town of Futrono through some of the most beautiful country we have ever seen. It was a stark contrast to the Atacama Desert up north. This part of the country is known for its dairy products. We passed fields of feed corn and cows.

With the help of the Salgados and some wonderful youth counselors, we set up the school supplies. This is the time-consuming part of the process with piles of boxes to cut down and recycle.

That afternoon the amazing youth from the Osorno mission assembled 1,700 school kits.

Representatives from the Salvation Army Schools were there to receive them. These kits will be donated to children in Valdivia, Osorno, and Puerto Montt. Some of these kits were gratefully received by the director of the Baptist School where the youth camp was held.

A well-deserved late dinner back in Osorno at a steak house. This may have been the best meal we have had in Chile!

We flew back to Santiago Thursday morning after saying goodbye to the cow at the airport. Notice the continents of South America and Africa on her coat.

Friday morning, we were back at Camp Cumorah Casablanca, an hour and a half outside Santiago. This week our faithful helpers were the Salgados, Acevedos, Hermana Lindquist, and Elder Bruland. Set up is a breeze with this many helpers.

That afternoon the fabulous youth from our own mission- Santiago East assembled 500 more school kits that will be donated to children in Santiago.

Special one-on-one moments with these wonderful young people make all our efforts worthwhile.

Friday night dinner date with Lindquists

Saturday Family Home Evening with our new ward members in the Providencia ward. The Pocuro ward was divided at the beginning of this year and the Los Leones and Providencia wards were created.

Sunday lunch with the missionaries in our ward: Hermana’s Dermisache & Ruiz from Argentina, and Elders Hoagland & Higbee from Utah.

Although we dropped into bed each night exhausted, we acknowledge heavenly help blessing us with the health and strength we needed this week to accomplish our tasks. The energy of these remarkable young people energizes us. Five PFJ’s down, five to go! Adelante!
