We spent a wonderful week sharing some of the places we love in Chile with our friends, John and Geanie Roake.
SANTIAGO-SIGHTS & SOUNDS
The fourth time was the charm- we finally were able to see the changing of the guard at La Moneda Palace!

We climbed Santa Lucia Hill, an oasis in the busy city.

La Vega Market – 12lbs of strawberries for $6.00

Scrumptious Santiago Snacks

POMAIRE- PREACHING & PIGS
During a day trip to the town of Pomaire we ran into some missionaries from the Santiago West mission and enjoyed treating them to lunch.

VINA- VISTAS & VIEWS
Nothing soothes the soul like a day by the ocean

CHILOE- CHUMS & CHURCHES
We saw penguins and several bird species on our tour at Punihuil Beach and a pod of dolphins followed our boat!

We shared three of the UNESCO Churches of Chiloe with our friends.
We were finally able to see inside Nuestro Senora del los Dolores in Dalcahue

We ate at the famous kitchens of Dalcahue. The kitchens, located in stilt houses, have the external structure of a boat. Once inside you choose one of the twenty-plus vendors and eat at bars that surround the kitchens. The fish is fresh and is unloaded directly onto the waterfront from the fishermen’s boats.

PUYEHUE NATIONAL PARK
We enjoyed the beautiful drive through Puyehue National Park to the Argentine border. We also stopped for a short hike in Anticura and saw several unique waterfalls.

LAKE LLANQUIHUE
We stayed in Puerto Varas, right on Lake Llanquihue. Unfortunately, the Osorno volcano was mostly hidden behind clouds. We took a day to drive around the lake stopping at some of our favorite places. This part of Chile has a Bavarian flair.

We drove up the Osorno Volcano

German Lunch at Rancho Espantapajaros

German-style wooden buildings characterize the town of Frutillar

We enjoyed a picturesque drive through Chile’s Lake District

MEMORABLE MORNING
On Saturday morning we were privileged to gather with our fellow missionaries in the Santiago East Mission to have a meeting with Elder Dale G Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve and his wife Ruth, Elder Craig C Christiansen, South America South Area President, and his wife Debbie, and Elder Carlos A Godoy of the presidency of the Seventy and his wife Monica. It was a sweet two hours as they tutored us in a very personal way.

We have had a magical week with our friends and hate to see it end.
“True friends are never apart, maybe in distance but never in heart.” We count the friendships we have with each one of you as a great blessing in our lives.
