Signs of spring are all around us

SHARING
Our operations and maintenance department for temples contacted us this week to say they had used refrigerators to donate. We called our friends at ADRA and they were happy to receive them. The Adventist Development and Relief Agency International is a humanitarian agency operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church for the purpose of providing individual and community development and disaster relief.

SHOPPING SIGHTS

One day we went shopping for projects. We purchased cellos for the youth orchestra, a table saw for a drug rehab home, and an industrial rice cooker and hot water dispenser for our soup kitchen.

STEEPING MATE
Maté is a traditional South American drink made by soaking the dried leaves of a species of holly in hot water and is served with a metal straw in a container typically made from a gourd. As we met with our buyer this week, he was preparing his mate. People typically bring a large thermos of hot water with them to work, and they sip on their mate all day long.

STUDIOUS STUDENTS
We are teaching an English Connect Level 1 Class each Thursday evening. We gather with some dear friends we have met in our sojourn here and practice English together. We admire them for their desire and determination to learn English. English Connect has three levels, each containing 25 lessons. The goal of our weekly meetings is to help learners develop basic English conversation skills. We have so much fun together.

On Tuesday afternoons Benjamin Ramirez comes to our office and practices English with Élder Lamb. He is a senior in high school and is preparing to go to the United States to attend college next year.

Before Julio Jaramillo left on his mission to England, he practiced English once a week with Élder Lamb. We were invited to his home this week to speak with him on his weekly call home. After the call, we enjoyed Cena with his family, his mother Veronica Videla, his grandpa, and his sisters Victoria and Consuelo.

SATURDAY STEPS
We got our 12,000 steps in on Saturday climbing San Cristobal hill.

SOME PONDERINGS
A recent latterdaysaintcharities Instagram post captures our feelings: “How can we continue to hope for a better world when the world around us can feel so dire? Hope is lively. It does not wait for the world to be a better place; it helps that become a reality. Some of the world’s greatest visionaries, both past and present- like Rosa Parks, Mahatma Gandhi, President Russell M. Nelson, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu- hoped for a better world. And that hope led them to action; action that changed the world for the better. One of the best ways to find and hold onto hope is to do something for someone else. Through humanitarian work, we are able to make the world a better place and instill hope in those around us.”
All of you are examples to us as you serve in your families and in your communities, giving hope to those around you by sharing your time and talents with them. Carry on!
